A Smart, Low-Cost Chalet Management System for SMEs

GET-BS Academic Associate Ts. Associate Professor Dr. Lee Khai Loon has developed ChaMS, an award-winning chalet management system specially designed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the hotel industry run more efficiently.
User-friendly and affordable, ChaMS streamlines day-to-day operations such as booking management, guest registration, payments, invoice printing and transaction reporting. Built with rapid application development techniques in Microsoft Access, it requires only minimal computer skills and delivers big improvements in data accuracy, processing speed, and customer satisfaction compared to traditional methods.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee drew inspiration for ChaMS from his own stays in smaller chalets and hotels. Together with FIM final-year student Lim Xue Ting, he completed the prototype within a year, launching it for trial runs in 2020. The system is currently priced at a one-off promotional fee of RM500 and is tailored to the needs of SME operators. This research won gold medals in CITREx 2020 and ITEX 2020.
The next phase will integrate website functionality to allow direct customer interaction, extending ChaMS beyond internal management.
