Smart, Systematic, Strategic
Dr. Ahmad Taufik Unveils DeciXion
Reading Time: 3 minutes
GET-BS Academic Associate Ts. Dr. Ahmad Taufik Nursal has developed DeciXion, a web-based Decision Support System (DSS) that helps organisations make strategic decisions systematically, replacing intuition-driven approaches with transparent, evidence-based analysis.
Built on the Fuzzy TOPSIS method, DeciXion breaks complex problems into smaller components, lets users weigh multiple criteria and alternatives more accurately, and combines quantitative data with expert opinion in one platform. Users can input data, set criteria, and generate decision reports automatically, making the process faster and more consistent.
The research, which began in 2023 under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) on hybrid multi-attribute decision-making and sentiment analysis for housing project purchases, involves collaborators from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and several FPI lecturers — Dr. Khairunnisa Abdul Aziz, Dr. Nurul Ashykin Abd Aziz, Ts. Dr. Noor Akma Abu Bakar and Dr. Zarith Sufia Azlan — with industry input from NM Rich Enterprise.
Dr. Ahmad Taufik notes that DeciXion can support vendor selection, resource optimisation, technology adoption and strategic planning across sectors, reducing inconsistent decisions and boosting organisational confidence. The cost of using the system depends on scale, additional modules, and integration needs.
Plans include a more user-friendly interface, integration with big data and predictive analytics, and expanding its application to government, education, health and real estate. Beyond industry, DeciXion is also a practical platform for postgraduate students in Operations Research (OR) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to test models, speed up thesis work, and facilitate journal publication.
Before evolving into a full web-based platform, an early version of DeciXion was built in Microsoft Excel, with several related studies already published in Scopus-indexed journals.
Recognition for the system has been strong: the early Excel-based version combining decision modeling with sentiment analysis won the Management Special Award and a Gold Medal at CITREX 2024, while at CITREX 2025, DeciXion earned the Strategic Business Management Innovation Award.
